The name
Why the rock rose
The rock rose — known in Spanish as the jara — is a resilient flower that thrives in rugged landscapes. Its name carries a personal meaning for me: Jara is my family name. The flower speaks to strength, natural beauty, and a deep connection to the earth, and I named Rock Rose Investigations to honor that connection and the renewal it represents.
The process
What happens next.
Most people have never hired a private investigator before. Here's exactly what happens
A free conversation
Tell me what's going on. I'll tell you honestly whether an investigation can help, what it would involve, and roughly what it would cost. No charge, no obligation.
A written contract
We agree the scope, the approach and the cost, in writing before I begin. No retainer. If the case changes shape along the way, we update the contract together — nothing gets added without your say-so.
A documented report
Time-stamped photographs and/or video where relevant, and a written report stating the events of the investigation. I will testify in court if your case requires it.
No surprises

Before you call
You control how I contact you
If someone else may be watching your phone, email, or browsing, start here:
I DO NOT confirm that you are a client
If I receive a request for client confirmation, the request will be declined.
You choose how I reach you
Tell me what mode of communication is the most comfortable and that is the one we will utilize. Give me your preferences so I can accommodate your request.
Safety first
If there's any question about your physical safety, we deal with that first. If I believe the police need to be involved I'll tell you directly, and I won't proceed until the safety concern is resolved.
Your case file stays with me
Case notes, photographs and video stay on my own equipment and are archived to a drive I control — not to anyone else's cloud service. Messages you send through this website and by email do pass through the services that run them.
Questions
Straight answers.
What do you charge?
$75 an hour, billed in half-hour increments, with no retainer and no minimum number of hours. The first consultation is free.
Mileage is free inside Bernalillo and Sandoval Counties. Beyond that it's $0.75 a mile measured from the county line, plus a $50 daily travel stipend if the work takes me more than 20 miles outside it. Court testimony is billed at the same $75 an hour.
How do I know you're actually licensed?
My New Mexico private investigator license number is 2026-0222. You can verify it yourself through the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department — you don't have to take my word for it. I'm also bonded in the State of New Mexico.
Is what I tell you confidential?
Yes. I don't discuss your case or confirm your client status with anyone. You tell me how it's safe to contact you, and that's the communication method we will use to proceed.
What documentation will I receive?
You'll receive a written report with time-stamped photographs and video. I've testified in court before and will do so again if your case requires it, at the same hourly rate.
How long will it take?
Surveillance — that's your call, and it depends heavily on the case. I'll give you a recommendation once I understand the situation.
Background research — you'll have an update within 48 hours, though a more extensive search can take longer.
Locating someone — first update within 72 hours. These need flexibility; people are not always where the records say they are.
Do you screen job applicants or prospective tenants?
Yes. I run background screening for employers and landlords.
That work is governed by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, which means two things for you as the employer or landlord: the applicant has to give written permission before I run the check, and if you decide against them because of something in my report, there are notices you're required to send. I'll walk you through both — it's straightforward once you've done it, and doing it properly is what keeps you in compliance.
What areas do you cover?
I'm based in Albuquerque and work throughout Bernalillo and Sandoval Counties. I will travel anywhere throughout New Mexico and/or out of state, if the case calls for it. All travel parameters will be discussed and covered ahead of time.
There's no office to visit. I come to you.
What can a private investigator not legally do?
I can't access bank records or phone records, record conversations I'm not part of, place a tracker on a vehicle you don't own, enter private property without permission, or identify myself as law enforcement. I won't use illegal methods or promise access to records and tools a private investigator cannot lawfully obtain.
Do you take criminal defense work?
No.
